I’m having bloggers block and I need help. This blog started out with me just pouring out my thoughts. I couldn’t contain them and I just wanted to get the words OUT! It felt great and cathartic, like a dam had burst inside of me. Now it’s starting to get harder and I’m becoming more sensitive and critical of my writing and seeking to improve. I want to write the story of Amy and Adam well, and I am struggling to know how to do it.
Should I write it like a novel with characters and dialogue (well dialogue of a sort as it’s mostly, but not all, online)? Should I continue to write it in the first person? There is so much material in the Amy and Adam story and I need to do it, and Adam, justice. How do I build them as characters? And weave them through the rest of my life story.
But then, blogging is not novel writing. Even a newbie to writing, as I am, knows this. There are many bloggers out there who are writing wonderfully and captivating people and keeping them interested. My little band of followers (you are each precious to me already) are giving me some nice feedback, but lets face it, some of you are my friends so even if you don’t like it you are being nice, or tactful. And some of you are being helpful. I really appreciate that. And I don’t mean to hurt my friends’ feelings, however the bloggers who are following me will probably be more objective.
They are interested because the story has captured them. My friends are interested in the story, however you are also interested in me cause I’m presuming you like me, or you wouldn’t be my friends. Plus for some of you this is great gossip, as you didn’t know about my secret life. One of my friends last night told me that people like to peer into other people’s lives, so I should try to take advantage of this curiosity. That’s so true. And my gorgeous sister suggested that I write this post, to practice and to seek feedback so I can improve and in turn, entertain or interest my followers. Thanks sis! Great idea and I took your advice as you can see.
Help me out here? Any ideas on how to present the Amy and Adam story? What bits so far have been the most interesting? I see the likes on my posts and I re-read the ones with the most likes to try and figure out what resonates.
I also need to know how much sex you would like to read about? Should I go boldly into that in detail? There are risks for me in opening that up widely but I’m not totally scared of doing that.
I’m also thinking of posting some pictures. Would this enhance my blog?
And lastly, should I tell Adam about the blog?
Let me know your thoughts!

Hey there efriend. First of all, are you writing anywhere else other than just on the blog? If no, then I suggest finding a good writer’s software tool. I use Scrivener, which is available for both Mac and PC (http://literatureandlatte.com/). Not expensive and built to help you navigate the creation of stories, of characters, plots, and lots more. I have done some writing and then copied it to my blog, tweaked it a little, and then published. Other posts I will reverse engineer and put into my story in the software. I also have found that by adding my Truth Log, I am categorizing the posts a little, organizing them, which again might help in the future for your readers. Add links in the current post to past posts that relate to the evolution, for example.
That is what I have to say for now! Oh. Except my gut says not to tell Adam yet.
And I will get back to you later about your other questions…
Thanks so much! Wow am I glad I found you on here. I will get that software. And I’m doing a word doc with a timeline of the story and the things that happened to get ready for when I write about it. Need to be organised. It helps me to remember the details too and collect all the photos and bits and pieces that I can put into the blog to make it more interesting.
ANd you’re right, won’t tell Adam yet. I suspect that if the story ever finds its way into a best selling novel he will want a share of the royalties though ha ha. I am nothing if not confident about my writing potential. Gotta be optimistic!!!
An author I read also uses the same programme and has her on blog discussing how she uses it.
